Even the restrictions which are still in place, outdoor events are the best way of creating something fun which people can attend. Last month we had our very first outdoor event, a food festival which we were able to carry out in the car park of a restaurant. The event went down brilliantly and as you can imagine, people were just so happy to get out and about. We had never done event planning like this before but given the demand we are going to try and put one together every month, at least for the next 6 months.
If you have an appetite for doing something like this, here is what you will need.
Bathrooms
We used the brilliant team at Diamond Environmental Services who were able to provide us with some high quality portable bathrooms. Given that there are so many restrictions regarding letting people indoors, this was the best way for us to provide bathrooms to the people. Not only this but Diamond also provided us with sanitization stations, which meant that everyone could keep their hands clean and gelled up.
Food Trucks
Even if you don’t plan on doing a food event, people still have to eat. Those who own food trucks are itching to get back out there and they will pay you for a permit to do business on site. Contact local ads for food trucks and look to get a variety of meal options. Aim to have both meat free and meat options so that you can cover all bases.
Central Stage
Having a stage is idea because it means that you can speak to the crowds, have musical acts if you wish and it is generally considered as being the centre of the event. Stages do not have to cost the Earth and if you so wish you could actually rent a low cost stage, which can easily be put up and packed back down again when the event is over.
Marquee
High winds, hot sun and rain could all have the potential to ruin your event, which is why it is critical that you have somewhere in which they can take refuge. A marquee doesn’t have to be enormous but putting one up will just give people another option for where they can go and enjoy their food, or enjoy their day. Again this is something which you should probably look to rent, unless you do have plans to create more events like this in the future.
Volunteers
It is always worth getting some volunteers on hand who can help with things like cleaning up the space. If you expect for the location to let you come back and prepare another one of these events, you have to leave the place as you found it. There are always jobs to be done so a handful of volunteers are going to be critical to making sure that the day is a success.
