Network news broadcast ratings are crashing as viewers stop watching.
NBC Nightly News, ABCWorld News and the CBS Evening News lost over a million viewers in April through June, 2010 compared to the same period last year.
Even with the oil volcano dominating daily conversations and the nightly news, and anchors being dispatched to the beaches to cover the impending invasion, people are tuning out.
Viewers are flipping off Katie Couric the most among the big-time network anchors based on percentages of viewers. The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric lost 340,000 viewers.
In numbers released today, NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams lost 440,000 viewers. ABC’s World News with Diane Sawyer lost 260,000 viewers (compared to Charlie Gibson in 2009).
ABC and CBS were also down when Q2 2008 is compared to Q2 2009. All the cable news networks showed a drop in television viewers during the same period. Only Morning Express with Robin Meade and the Joy Behar show on HLN showed an increase during the period.
