It’s being reported by the folks at MLB that Jose Contreras and the Phillies have come to an agreement for a one year deal.
Management in Philly won’t say whether or not a deal has in fact been signed, while team GM Ruber Amaro Jr. released this statement:
“We have had discussions with his agent, and we are working on some things.”
That statement doesn’t seem like a done deal to us. Regardless, If a deal is signed, it will still be dependent on a clean bill of health after the ball player takes a physical.
During his 2009 season with the White Sox and Rockies Contreras was 6-13 with a 4.92 ERA over 28 games, hardly a stellar season. Over seven seasons (his career) he is 71-63 with a 4.61 ERA.
The deal will also more than likely be less significant than the $10 million he earned in 2009.
