General Motors Chief Executive Officer Fritz Henderson unexpectedly resigned his post on Tuesday, a move that once again leaves Americas largest car company scrambling to find a new leader to head the struggling automobile manufacturer.
Several months ago GM CEO G. Richard Wagoner Jr. was forced out by the Obama Administration (GM is Government Owned) and his replacement was quickly chosen, however the Obama administration has said that an immediate replacement will not be named.
In the interim Edward E. Whitacre Jr., the former head of AT&T will take over the post as GM’s interim CEO. Whitacre is also the companies board chairman, a position he was appointed to by the U.S. Government earlier in 2009.
According to the WashingtonPost:
“While momentum has been building over the past several months, all involved agree that changes needed to be made,” Whitacre said “We now need to accelerate our progress” he added.
Unfortunately Whitacre refused to answer any questions about Henderson’s departure.
If you’re curious to know how sudden his departure was, Henderson was set to give a major speech at the Los Angeles Auto Show tomorrow (Wednesday).
