Matthew Roberts, a Los Angeles DJ, tracked his family tree only to discover that his father was cult leader and serial killer Charles Manson, a fact later confirmed by the mans mother.

According to Roberts biological mother Terry, he was conceived during a drug filled orgy in which Manson raped her, leading to her pregnancy. Matthew was then raised by adoptive parents.

Roberts also learned that he was originally named Lawrence Alexander and that his mother for many years hid details about her rape and his conception.

Roberts couldn’t be more unlike his father, he’s a vegetarian, a Ghandi follower and a typically calm person, although he has said he’s been experiencing bouts of depression since learning the truth.

According to Inquisitr:

“I’m not nuts but I’ve got a little bit of it. It’s scary and upsetting. If I get worked up, my eyes get really big and that’s really freaked some people out before.

“I’ve tried to tone that down quite a bit. I don’t like having that effect on people.

“I don’t even like the fact that I’m big. It makes me even scarier. My hero is Gandhi. I’m an extremely non-violent, peaceful person and a vegetarian.

“I don’t even kill bugs. I’ve had long hair all my life. I could make it go away, but I can’t let the world and their fears change me.”

Since the discovery, Roberts has struggled with the idea of having a relationship with his father, saying that while he doesn’t “want to love (Manson),” he doesn’t want to hate him either.

It’s a sad end to an otherwise innocent search, however I have to applaud Roberts ability to take things one day at a time, while keeping everything in perspective.

  • Wow, poor guy. Got a lot more than he bargained for just trying to trace his roots. At least he's not letting the news ruin his life. Good for him!
