
The era of Oprah will come to an end after the 2011 season. According to Harpo Productions the Queen of Daytime Talk has decided to end her syndicated show which began in 1984.
The Oprah Winfrey show started in 1984 under the name “A.M. Chicago” before being renamed “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in 1985 and then becoming nationally syndicated in 1986.
The final episode of Oprah will broadcast in September 2011.
According to Tim Bennett, President of Harpo in a letter addressed to NBC Affiliates:
“Tomorrow, Oprah will announce live on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ that she has decided to end what is arguably one of the most popular, influential and enduring programs in television history…The sun will set on the ‘Oprah’ show as its 25th season draws to a close on September 9, 2011.”
He Added:
“Before she speaks to her loyal viewers, we wanted to share her decision first with you – our valued partners for more than two decades…Oprah’s personal comments about this on tomorrow’s live show will mark a historic television moment that we will all be talking about for years to come.”
