An FAA computer glitch today caused various flights throughout the U.S. to be cancelled and in some cases delayed. Although the glitch was fixed before the afternoon hours, the delays led to a domino effect that has stranded some passengers from various flights.
The problem, which lasted approximately five hours caused the FAA automated systems to lack the ability to retrieve flight plans, causing many flights to be entered by hand.
Unfortunately by the time the issues was fixed at 10 a.m E.S.T. many airlines had already cancelled flights and have been pushing them back to times that could extend into Friday.
The problem was worse in Midwest and Eastern state cities where bad weather conditions were already leading to many delays. Especially larger airports known for acting as “transfer hubs” such as the worlds busiest hub, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport which experienced various cancellations and numerous delays.
