Coast Guard And U.S. Marine Aircrafts Collide, 9 People Missing

The U.S. Marines and Coast Guard released a statement this morning that their aircrafts had collided off the coast of Southern California. The aircraft, a Marine Corps Helicopter and a U.S. Coast Guard plane were carrying 9 people who rescue teams are searching for at this time.

The accident occurred late Thursday evening around the San Clemente Island area, a U.S. Navy controlled island.

Seven of the nine personnel were aboard the Coast Guard C-130 transport while the remaining two individuals were aboard the Marine Corps AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter.

The Cobra crew were in the middle of training, but neither the Coast Guard nor Marine Corp. have yet to release any information pertaining to why the crash had or may have occurred.

A debris field from the accident has been found, however no personnel have been recovered from various team searches at this time.
