Dakota Fanning may be uprooting, house and all, to take on the role of Dorothy in a Wizard of Oz Sequel that’s sure to be darker than the original with Spawn director Todd McFarlane co-producing the film.
MTV spoke to a Warner Bros. executive who called the film a “darker and more action-packed” take on L. Frank Baum story. McFarlane went on to tell MTV “You’ve still got Dorothy trapped in an odd place, but she’s much closer to the Ripley character from ‘Alien’ [Sigourney Weaver] than a helpless singing girl.” [via MTV]
Dakota fanning has always excelled when she gets to play with roles where the creepy factor shines through (Interview with a Vampire) so perhaps an action filled Oz with a little bit of a scary/creepy factor would really let her break out.
I just hope she doesn’t have to wear those ruby ready slippers, I mean come on…seriously?
