In the ultra short lived digital age it seems like even Amazon has to stay ahead of…well…Amazon! The Kindle 2 is practically an after thought this week after the announcement of the Amazon Kindle DX became all legit with pictures, pricing and even a possible release date. The new model features a 9.7 inch display that also offers landscape mode and it offers a bigger hard drive than the Kindle and Kindle 2 units at 3.3GB. Heck Amazon is even throwing in a PDF reader.
The Kindle DX will come in at a hefty $489 with subsidies from some popular media names including the Washington Post, Boston Global and the New York Times. Unfortunately those subsidies are only available to newspaper customers who’s geographic area won’t allow them to receive paper versions.
Some major universities including Arizona State, Princeton and Reed will even be handing out the units to hundreds of students for use with textbooks and other required reading.
The Amazon Kindle DX should hit shelves this summer. Stay Tuned! [GearCrave via Engadget]
