Fake Pilot Arrested Before Jet Take-off

A fake pilot was arrested before taking off with 101 passengers.
A 41 year old man pretending to be an airliner pilot was arrested in Amsterdam just before take-off, piloting a jet with 101 people on board.

The man had been fraudulently flying for Turkey’s Corendon Airlines for 2 years, after faking papers to give the appearance that he was licensed to fly jets. In actuality, he was only in possession of an expired license to fly small aircraft.

He argued he had been flying for various European airlines for 13 years and logged 10,000 hours of flight, but was also reportedly “relieved” to put an end to the charade, and ripped the captain’s stripes from his uniform when accosted in the cockpit.

He is in custody pending trial for faking his license papers and for flying without a license. [via Ananova]
